Easy Crochet Ribbing

Hello,

In this video, we will learn how to crochet ribbing for your projects. This easy to learn technique will add a cool ribbed-like texture to any of your creations, like hats, sweaters, pants… and so much more.

Let’s start with your chain, keeping in mind that the length of your chain is how wide you want your ribbing to end up. In this video, I am using chain 11.

Use the hook number that corresponds to your yarn instructions.

Ribbing with Single Crochet

Row 1:

Single Crochet each stitch

ROW 2 and every following row, Single Crochet in the back of your stitch.

Repeat this single crochet pattern until you reach your desired length. (You may want to count your stitches at the beginning of your work, so you have the same amount in every row. Once you see your pattern better, it’ll be easier to carry on without counting each stitch).

Ribbing with Half Double Crochet

Row 1:

Half Double Crochet each stitch

ROW 2 and every following row, Half Double Crochet in the back of your stitch.

Repeat this Half Double Crochet pattern until you reach your desired size. (Just like with the Single Stitch, you may want to count your stitches at the beginning of your work, so you have the same amount in every row.)

NOTE: With the last stitch of the row, I usually take the front and the back of the stitch to prevent loose edging. This will give you a cleaner look to your work.

Now that we’ve gone through the steps, have fun practicing and don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comment section below!
